Hello, my name is George Siavelis, and I'm the owner / operator of George Siavelis Master Guide LLC. If you're looking for a personalized guided hunt for some of the world's largest brown bears, we need to talk. I've got the bears and I can get you on them.
I've been guiding in Alaska for most of my adult life. I hold Master Guide License #150, and am licensed for Game Management Units 6, 17, 18, 19, 25 and 26. Although I've guided hunters all over the state for a variety of species, my specialty is big bears, which I am hunting in GMU 6, in the Cordova area. I run a very small, well-organized operation, and I guide each of my clients personally. This gives me the ability to move if I need to, and to craft a custom hunt that meets the very specific needs of my hunters. I don't believe you'll find a brown bear guide that really does what I do.
My hunting area is loaded with streams full of salmon during the fall hunting season, and this abundant food source is an attractant to some of the largest bears in the world. While the record books are primarily concerned with large skull sizes (and we get our fair share of those), most hunters are interested in the sheer bulk of a bear. I've been fortunate over the last few years to be hunting an area where we've taken an unusual number of bears over ten feet. These are the huge coastal brown bears you've read about over the years, and on most hunts you'll see a lot of bears. You'll discover this for yourself once you start talking to my past clients. I encourage you to check my references!
Because I personally guide each of my hunters, each hunt is customized. That said, there are some general principles I follow with each hunt. To start with, I'm a believer that organization is one of the keys to success here in Alaska, and because I manage all the details of each hunt, you'll find a smooth process that gets us into the field without any hitches that are within our control. Second, I use top-quality gear that's in good repair. I make my living at this, and it's in my and my hunters best interest to have good gear. Third, I'm a believer in the old-fashioned practices of fair chase that go beyond the legal minimums. We won't be looking for bears from the air or doing anything that gives us an unfair advantage. And finally, my hunts take place in an area that's just riddled with bears. This gives my trophy hunters ample opportunity, while offering something for the hunter who is primarily interested in the experience itself.
I work hard to make each hunt fit within the capabilities of my hunters. We glass for bears in some areas, and in most cases, we actually stalk our bears with an inflatable canoe. This allows us to get very close to bears that cannot hear us coming. It's an exciting method that has resulted in our harvest of a number of very large bears. Let's talk!
